Frequency Asked Questions

  • What is EDIS ?

It is a system that utilizes advanced technology to detect natural disasters such as earthquakes at the location of occurrence, send early warnings to the affected area before the disaster strikes, and activate autonomous preventive measures.
  • What is EdisBox?

It is a smart device installed in buildings that, upon the occurrence of a disaster, transmits early warning signals and activates autonomous preventive measures, aiming to minimize potential loss of life and property.
  • What is required for EdisBox installation?

All we need for EdisBox installation is a robust and durable wired or 4G internet connection. If you are planning to buy EDISBOX for your block, factory, apartment or house that works with a wired internet connection, you must have a wired internet infrastructure installed in the installation area.
  • How long in advance will I receive a warning?

EDIS's early warning time may vary depending on your location, as well as the depth and magnitude of the earthquake. Since each region has a different geological structure and earthquake risk, warning times can be affected by geographical factors. For example, the early warning time is shorter for regions closer to the earthquake epicenter, while it may be slightly longer for more distant areas.
  • Can I still receive an alert if I am outside the earthquake zone?

Depending on the magnitude of the earthquake, if you are 500 km away from the earthquake, you will be warned with the settings you will make on your Edis Box device.
  • Will earthquake notifications come through with sound if my phone is on silent or turned off?

While buildings equipped with the system can receive alerts, users will not be able to receive early warning signals through the EDIS PRO mobile application if their phone is turned off. However, if the phone is in silent mode, earthquake early warning notifications will be delivered with sound on IOS devices when the “Critical Alerts” feature is enabled. Please make sure this setting is turned on.
  • What is a P Wave?

P-waves, or primary waves, are a type of seismic wave that propagates from the point where an earthquake starts and are the fastest. These waves occur in the first moments of an earthquake and usually travel faster than surface waves. In other words, they are primary waves and have no destructive effects. Its speed is approximately 6km/s.
  • What is the S Wave?

S waves are the second type of seismic waves of an earthquake, named after the secondary, and are the most destructive earthquake waves.
  • What is the difference between EDIS and Google's early warning system?

Google’s early warning system gathers data from accelerometers inside mobile phones. EDIS, on the other hand, uses dedicated sensors placed both underwater and on land to detect earthquakes at the source, allowing it to receive and send alerts to users faster than mobile phone-based systems.
  • Can it give time to exit the building when a warning is received?

It gives you the arrival time of the S wave, and you can decide whether you can get out in this time or not based on the exercises you have done before.
  • Who are EDIS solution partners?

HUBBOX Provides integration of home, office, building devices and systems. SENTEZ: Active in earthquake engineering, structural health monitoring and seismic measurement systems. TARGET AUDIT: Since 2008, it has been providing contracted advertising services with housing estates and collective living spaces.
  • What is the working principle of EDIS?

Together with its solution partners, EDIS collects and analyzes seismic data within milliseconds through earthquake stations installed at various locations, primarily in the Marmara Region. After detecting P-waves—the initial but non-destructive phase of an earthquake—it instantly transmits early warning signals to building automation systems and mobile application users. This enables the activation of protective measures before destructive waves such as S-waves reach populated areas.
  • Does EdisBox have a lifespan?

As with other devices containing electronic circuits, the EDIS BOX has a minimum lifespan of 20 years.
  • In which regions does EDIS provide service?

EDIS operates through a private sensor network primarily located in the Marmara region, sending early warning notifications for earthquakes that may affect your current location. We are continuing to expand our sensor infrastructure, primarily in the Marmara region, and also to extend our services to the Aegean region
  • Why doesn’t the app send alerts for every earthquake?

In the EDIS PRO app, alerts are calculated and delivered based on your location’s distance from the earthquake’s epicenter and the expected intensity you might feel. Therefore, you are not expected to receive alerts for every earthquake. The system only sends notifications for quakes that are likely to affect you.
  • EDIS PRO’nun konumumu doğru şekilde alabilmesi için ne yapmalıyım?

For EDIS PRO to function correctly, your phone’s location services must be enabled, and the app must have “Always” permission to access your location. Additionally, it is recommended to open the app at least once a day to ensure it remains active and continues to update your location in the background.
  • What is the EDIS PRO Mobile Application?

It is a mobile application that enables users to receive early warnings during a possible disaster, integrated with EDIS devices and technologies. The app can send real-time notifications, inform, and guide users.
  • Does the EDIS PRO app provide early warning without an internet connection?

The early warning system in the app relies on transmitting sensor data over the internet, so an internet connection is required for it to function. If Wi-Fi or mobile data is turned off, you will not receive earthquake alerts. Since EDIS provides alerts before the disaster occurs, a potential internet outage after the event does not affect your ability to receive warnings.
  • Can I receive an early warning notification even if I don’t feel the earthquake?

EDIS PRO sends early warning notifications based on the distance between your location and the earthquake’s epicenter, as well as the potential perceived intensity. In some cases, you may receive a notification for low-magnitude or distant earthquakes even if you don’t physically feel any shaking. The app sends alerts based on the likelihood of perceived shaking; not every notification will correspond to a noticeable physical impact.
  • Why can the earthquake magnitude reported by official institutions differ from that reported by EDIS PRO?

Since official institutions (AFAD, Kandilli) measure earthquakes using different sensors and calculation methods, there may be slight differences in the results. EDIS PRO operates with high accuracy, especially for earthquakes of magnitude 5.0 and above. Our priority is to provide the fastest possible early warning; magnitude detection is a secondary goal of our system.
  • What should I do to receive early earthquake warning notifications from the app?

To receive early warning notifications, you must first complete your EDIS PRO subscription. Additionally, notification permissions and location services for the app must be enabled on your phone.
  • Does the app need to remain open to receive earthquake notifications?

No, EDIS PRO can run in the background. Once you log in, you don’t need to open the app again unless you manually log out. The system does not automatically terminate user sessions. It is recommended to open the app at least once a day to ensure it stays active and can continuously access your location in the background.
  • Why do some users in the same location receive earthquake alerts while others do not?

There could be several reasons for this. First, make sure your phone’s location settings are accurate and up-to-date, and that notification permissions are enabled. Additionally, if the earthquake’s magnitude was below the threshold you selected in the “Alert Settings” section of the app, the system may not have sent you a notification. You can review and adjust your alert preferences accordingly. Lastly, in rare cases, delays may occur due to mobile network issues or the alert may be queued by the system.
  • I felt the earthquake because the epicenter was very close, but I didn’t receive a notification. Why?

The most likely reason is that you have set a minimum earthquake magnitude threshold in the “Alert Settings” section of the app. If the earthquake’s magnitude is below the level you selected, the system will not send a notification. However, due to your close proximity to the epicenter, you may still physically feel the shaking. You can review and adjust your settings to receive alerts for smaller magnitude earthquakes if needed.
  • Why do I sometimes receive earthquake notifications late on the mobile app, even before the earthquake occurs?

EDIS PRO uses its own sensor network, positioned on and near active fault lines in the Marmara Region, to detect earthquakes before their destructive effects begin and sends early warning notifications to users. However, in some cases, delayed notifications may occur due to your close proximity to the earthquake's epicenter or due to data transmission delays caused by mobile network operators.
  • Can I use the EDIS PRO app on multiple devices?

EDIS PRO usage is tied to your registered user account. You can log in on multiple devices using the same credentials; however, early warning notifications are only sent to the device where the most recent login occurred. Therefore, the device you wish to receive alerts on must have the app installed with both notification and location permissions enabled.
  • Does the EDIS PRO app affect battery consumption while running in the background?

EDIS PRO is optimized to operate with low power consumption in the background. The app only monitors sensor data and uses location information when necessary, keeping battery usage to a minimum. Continuous GPS use is avoided; location data is accessed only at the time of an alert to perform necessary actions.
  • Can I set the minimum earthquake magnitude for notifications from EDIS PRO?

The EDIS PRO application allows users to filter the minimum earthquake magnitude for which they want to receive notifications via the "Settings" > "Disaster Notification Settings" section. This way, you can customize and filter the notifications you receive.
